Free Sourdough Breadmaker Recipes

Preparing a sourdough starter can take well over a week and can be painstakingly complicated at times. Since it takes advantage of the yeast that naturally floats around in the air, it takes a lot of patience to capture enough into the dough to allow it to rise properly. The sourdough recipes here will assume you have already obtained your prepared starter of about 1 cup and are ready to get baking.

Sourdough Starter

In a larger bowl, combine the first 4 ingredients along with your 1 cup sourdough starter. Add in the sifted flour to form your dough. Rub grease or oil on the dough and then place in your pre-greased bowl. Cover and let rise, preferably overnight.

The next day, preheat the oven to 350 F. After kneading the dough for around 10 minutes, divide in half and place in two separate baking dishes or bread pans, already greased. Let it sit in the pans until the size expands, doubling itself if not more.

Finally, bake your bread for around 45 minutes and take out of the pans to cool.

Sourdough recipes that utilize a bread machine still require you to bake the actual dough in the oven. The machine just makes the process of turning your sourdough starter into actual dough a lot easier—and a lot less time intensive!

Look at your machine and find the setting for manual cycle, or something similarly termed. Put all of the above ingredients into the pan and let it run. This should take around 2 hours.

While it is baking, lightly cover a flat surface with flour. This will later be used to form the shape of your bread loaf. Right before the machine is done, lightly dust a baking sheet with cornmeal for the actual baking of the formed dough.

Once the manual cycle on your machine is complete move the dough first to your floured working surface. You want to create the form of your bread, preferably in a single layered, round loaf.

Next, place it onto your cornmeal powdered baking sheet, cover it up, and let it rise somewhere warm for at least 35 minutes, if not a little longer. Preheat the oven to 425 F at the end of this rising period.

Place the baking sheet into the oven for 25 to 35 minutes.
